Agencies host meeting on recreation
for the eastern Cascades to Columbia River

OLYMPIA – The Washington departments of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) and Natural Resources (DNR) will host a meeting next week in Ellensburg to discuss implementation of the Naneum Ridge to Columbia River Recreation and Access Plan.

The meeting is scheduled from 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 11, at the Hal Holmes Center in Ellensburg. The public is invited to attend.

The collaborative recreation plan, which was adopted by both agencies last year, encompasses 230,000 acres of DNR and WDFW lands stretching from the eastern slopes of the Cascade Range to the Columbia River.

The plan addresses recreation in the Naneum Ridge State Forest, which is managed by DNR, and WDFW’s Colockum and L.T. Murray wildlife areas. Advisory group members for the recreation plan and two wildlife areas will attend the meeting.

The agencies will provide an overview of the recreation plan and the processes each will follow to implement the various projects that were identified in the plan. Also there will be an update on projects that are completed, are scheduled or under way.

The plan guides DNR and WDFW in sustainable management of the recreation planning area and will continue to do so for the next 10 to 15 years.
