New hunters can meet field skills requirement
at Hunter Education Jamboree on Aug. 29

OLYMPIA-Prospective hunters who have completed Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) online hunter education coursework can fulfill their field skills requirements at a "Hunter Education Jamboree" Aug. 29 at the Boy Scout Camp Pigott in Snohomish County.

Online registration for the event is required. The registration deadline is Aug. 21.

Field skills requirements include a review of the online course content, including safety, firearms, first-aid and conservation topics, as well as hands-on firearm handling and live fire practice.

The jamboree will take place at the Boy Scouts of America Camp Pigott, 24225 Woods Creek Rd. in Snohomish near Lake Roesiger. Participants can choose from one of two sessions on Aug. 29: 8 a.m.-12 p.m. or 1- 5 p.m.

Each of the two sessions can accommodate up to 80 pre-registered students.

The jamboree will be conducted by WDFW hunter education coordinators and volunteer instructors from all over the state, said Steven Dazey, WDFW North Puget Sound region hunter education and volunteer coordinator.

All prospective Washington hunters born after Jan. 1, 1972 are required to show proof of hunter education course completion before purchasing their first hunting license.
