RIDGEFIELD – The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) will restrict vehicle access to the Vancouver Lake Wildlife Area Unit from Wednesday, Feb. 3 through Monday, Feb. 8.

WDFW crews will be on site to conduct maintenance and replace an access gate. Construction equipment will block La Frambois Road, preventing vehicle access to the unit’s east side. Walk-in access will still be allowed during the road closure.

People planning to participate in the youth, veteran, and active military waterfowl hunting day on Feb. 6 can still access the North and South units of the Shillapoo Wildlife Area located off NW Lower River Road and Erwin O. Reiger Highway (SR 501).

The 482-acre Vancouver Lake Unit is part of the Shillapoo Wildlife Area and is a major wintering area for waterfowl in the Pacific Flyway as well as an important wintering area for Sandhill cranes.

The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife is the state agency tasked with preserving, protecting, and perpetuating fish, wildlife, and ecosystems, while providing sustainable fishing, hunting, and other recreation opportunities.
