ABERDEEN - Anglers will have an unusual opportunity to catch steelhead up to 12 pounds in four Grays Harbor lakes beginning this weekend.
Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) will release 100 large steelhead into Lake Aberdeen, 100 fish into Lake Sylvia, and 50 into each of the two Vance Creek Ponds (Elma Ponds).
"These large, hard-fighting fish should provide some exciting fishing," said Tim Flint, WDFW Region 6 fish program manager. "Planting these steelhead in the lakes is part of our effort to provide quality fishing experiences to more people."
Fishing regulations allow anglers to keep five trout, although only two may be over 20 inches. In effect, it means the daily steelhead limit in the lakes is two fish.
Anglers hoping to hook a steelhead in the lakes will need a game fish license. A steelhead punch card is not required.
Lake Sylvia is open to fishing all year. The fishing season for Lake Aberdeen will close Oct. 31. Vance Creek Ponds will remain open until Nov. 30.
