PUGET SOUND COMMERCIAL SALMON FISHERIES RREGULATION HOTLINE 2022-08 Week 36 08/28/2022 – 10:30PM For the week beginning Sunday August 28 all areas are closed except as follows: Areas 7-B (Bellingham Bay): Gillnets 5-inch minimum mesh size: Open 24 hours per day from 7 AM Sunday August 28 to 7 AM Friday September 2. (Adjusted gillnet hours) Retention of Sockeye is prohibited Purse seines with a 5 inch strip: 6 AM to 8 PM Wednesday, August 31. Brailing is required, and purse seines must release all coho. 7-C (Samish Bay) will be open to: Gillnets using 7-inch minimum mesh size Open 24 hours per day from 7 AM Sunday August 28 to 12 AM Tuesday August 30th, then Open 24 hours per day from 7 AM Wednesday August 31 to 7AM Friday September 2. (Adjusted gillnet hours) Retention of Sockeye is prohibited. Purse seines with a 5 inch strip: 6 AM to 8 PM Wednesday, August 31. Brailing is required, and purse seines must release all coho. Area 9-A (Port Gamble Bay) will be open to: Skiff gillnets with nets not to exceed 600 feet in length and 60 meshes in depth using 5-inch minimum mesh, is open continuously through 7 PM Saturday, October 29. All Chinook and chum must be released by cutting the ensnaring mesh. Area 12-A (Quilcene Bay) will be open to: Beach seines: 7 AM to 7 PM daily Monday August 29 to Friday September 2. Beach seines may only retain coho and nets may not to exceed 990 feet in length and 200 meshes in depth using minimum 3-inch and maximum 4-inch mesh. Area 12-C will be open to: Beach seines: 7 AM to 7 PM, Monday August 29. Beach seines must release all chum and nets may not to exceed 990 feet in length and 200 meshes in depth using minimum 3-inch and maximum 4-inch mesh. Participation is restricted The Hoodsport Hatchery Zone 2,000 feet of the western shore between the dock at Glen Ayr Recreational Vehicle Park and the Hoodsport Marina dock and limited to those with a department issued beach seine permit and all rules and regulations associated with that permit remain in effect. Area 7 and 7-A sockeye fisheries are controlled by the Fraser River Panel and are not posted on this hotline. Fishers should call the National Marine Fisheries Service Hotline at 1-800-662-9825 to get opening information on Fraser Panel fisheries. Fishers are reminded that a department issued Fish Friendly certification card is required to participate in any Area 7 or 7-A commercial salmon fisheries.
