PUGET SOUND COMMERCIAL SALMON FISHERIES REGULATION HOTLINE 2022-21 Week 43 UPDATEv1 10/15/2022 – 14:00PM For the week beginning Sunday October 16 all areas are closed except as follows: Area 6-D (Dungeness Bay) will be open to: Gillnets using 5-inch minimum mesh size: 7 AM to 7 PM daily Monday October 17 through Friday October 21. All Chinook and chum must be released by cutting the ensnaring mesh. Area 7 (San Juan Islands) will be open to: Reef Nets: 5 AM to 9 PM Daily Sunday, October 16 to Saturday, October 22. May only retain marked Coho. WDFW received an update that the Inside Southern Chum abundance will not be meeting the 1.05 million threshold required for US fisheries. Please see the Department of Fisheries and Oceans Canada fishery notice, Notice FN1164 for further details. Due to these circumstances, WDFW will discontinue non-tribal 7/7A fisheries beginning Monday October 17th unless further notice is received from DFC Canada about additional run size changes. Areas 7-B (Bellingham Bay): Gillnets using 5-inch minimum mesh size: Open continuously through midnight Sunday, October 23. Retention of Sockeye is prohibited. Purse seines with a 5 inch strip: Open continuously through 6 pm Sunday, October 23. Brailing is required. Retention of Sockeye is prohibited. Area 9-A (Port Gamble Bay) will be open to: Skiff gillnets with nets not to exceed 600 feet in length and 60 meshes in depth using 5-inch minimum mesh, is open continuously through 7 PM Saturday, October 29. All Chinook and chum must be released by cutting the ensnaring mesh. Areas 12 and 12-B (Hood Canal): Gillnets using 6 1/4-inch minimum mesh size: Open 7 AM to 8 PM Monday, October 17 and Wednesday, October 19. Purse seines with a 5 inch strip: Open 7 AM to 6 PM Tuesday, October 18. Must release all Chinook and Coho.
