PUGET SOUND COMMERCIAL SALMON FISHERIES REGULATION HOTLINE 2024-09, Week 37, 09/06/2024 12:15 PM For the week beginning Sunday September 8 all areas are closed except as follows: Area 7 (San Juan Islands) will be open to: Reef Nets: 5 AM to 9 PM Daily Thursday, September 12, Friday, September 13, and Saturday, September 14. Reef Nets Must release all chum, sockeye, and unmarked Chinook. Immediate possession of a WDFW Logbook is required to retain marked Chinook and unmarked Coho. Reef Nets are asked to contact the Commercial Salmon Monitoring Program prior to fishing at 360-701-2215 for coverage information. Areas 7 B (Bellingham Bay) and 7 C (Samish Bay) will be open to: Gillnets using 5-inch minimum mesh size (7 B), and 7-inch minimum mesh size (7 C): Open 24 hours per day from 7 AM Sunday September 8 to 7 AM Friday September 13. Purse seines with a 5 inch strip: 7 AM to 7 PM the following days: Monday, September 9, Wednesday, September 11, and Friday, September 13. Brailing is required, and purse seines must release all sockeye. Purse seines are asked to contact the Commercial Salmon Monitoring Program prior to fishing at 360-701-2215 for coverage information. Area 9 A (Port Gamble Bay) will be open to: Skiff gill nets with nets not to exceed 600 feet in length and 60 meshes in depth using 5-inch minimum mesh, is open continuously through 7 PM Saturday, November 2. All Chinook and chum must be released by cutting the ensnaring mesh. Fishers are reminded that those waters within 1000 feet of Port Gamble Creek and Martha John creek are closed. Area 12 A (Quilcene Bay) will be open to: Beach seines: 7 AM to 7 PM daily Monday, September 9 through Friday, September 13. Beach seines may only retain coho and nets may not exceed 990 feet in length and 200 meshes in depth using minimum 3-inch and maximum 4-inch mesh. The Hoodsport Hatchery Zone, that portion of Area 12 C within 2,000 feet of the western shore between the dock at Glen Ayr Recreational Vehicle Park and the Hoodsport Marina dock will be open to: Beach seines with nets not to exceed 990 feet in length and 200 meshes in depth using minimum 3-inch and maximum 4-inch mesh: 7 AM to 7 PM, Monday, September 9. Beach seines must release all chum and sockeye. Participation is limited to those with a department issued beach seine permit and all rules and regulations associated with that permit remain in effect.
