News release July 18, 1997
Fishing will occur from noon to 7 p.m. Monday and from 2 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday.
Healthy numbers of pink salmon have been returning to the hatchery. Decisions will be made on a weekly basis whether to extend the fishery.
In other activity at the hatchery, the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife and the Skokomish Tribe will cooperate in taking fall chinook caught by beach seine fishers into the hatchery for spawning. Hood Canal is closed to the taking of adult chinook this year because the run is expected to return at inadequate levels for spawning needs.
Hood Canal is open for coho salmon fishing, however, for the first time in several years. Most of the coho begin entering Hood Canal in September.
