OLYMPIA- The permits required for parking vehicles at Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) wildlife areas and water access sites have a new name, look and display requirements.
The Vehicle Use Permits, formerly known as Access Stewardship Decals, are required for use of all posted WDFW lands. The permits generate funding for maintenance of WDFW lands and water access sites used by hunters, anglers, boaters, bird watchers and other recreationists.
The permits are now issued only once annually to each license holder and are transferrable between up to two vehicles. In the past, a parking decal was issued with each license purchase but could not be transferred between vehicles. Additional permits may be purchased for $5 each. Original permits are $10 each if purchased separately without a fishing or hunting license.
The new permits must be clearly displayed and visible from outside the vehicle. They can be placed on the dash, hung from the rear view mirror or placed on the front seat.
The penalty for parking on WDFW lands without a permit also has been revised. The infraction for parking without a permit will be automatically reduced from $66 to $30, if the vehicle owner shows proof he or she has purchased a permit within 15 days of the violation.
The parking permit changes were approved by the Legislature last year.
