OLYMPIA--Recreational clam and oyster seasons have been changed on severalPuget Sound beaches to protect shellfish populations, the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife announced today.
The changes are:
Oyster harvesting
- Dosewallips State Park opened March 1
- Eagle Creek will close April 1 until further notice
- Point Whitney tideland is closed until further notice
- Potlatch State Park closes April 16 until further notice
- West Dewatto beach (DNR44A) closes March 16 until further notice
- Wolfe Property State Park closes May 1 until further notice
Clam harvesting
- Dosewallips State Park opened March 1
- Eagle Creek will be open through April 30
- Mystery Bay State Park will be open through April 30
- Potlatch State Park will be open through March 31
- Cline Spit is closed until further notice
- Fort Flagler State Park closes May 1 until further notice
- Kopachuck State Park is closed until further notice
- Oak Bay County Park is closed through April 30
- Pillar Point is open through April 30
- Point Whitney tideland is closed until further notice
- Rendsland Creek closes May 1 until further notice
- Sequim Bay State Park (north and south sections) is closed until May 16
- West Dewatto beach (DNR44A) closes March 16 until further notice
- Wolfe Property State Park closes May 1 until further notice
New shellfish regulations will be contained in the 1999-2000 Fishing in Washington regulation pamphlet available May 1. Updates on recreational shellfish regulations can be heard on the Shellfish Emergency Regulation Hotline at (360) 796-3215. Fishers also should call the Marine Toxin Hotline at 1-800-562-5632 before harvesting shellfish
Recreational clam and oyster harvesting requires a shellfish/seaweed permit.
