Fishing lakes in Yakima region just stocked with big fish

Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) hatchery crews just stocked seven lakes in the Yakima region with 430 excess rainbow trout broodstock that will provide whopper catches for anglers.

The trout, which weigh from four to eight pounds, are no longer needed in hatchery production. They were stocked in the following numbers and lakes, all of which are open either year-round or for winter fishing:

In Yakima County:

  • I-82 Pond #4 - 50
  • I-82 Pond #6 - 50
  • Rotary Lake - 40
  • Myron Lake - 60
  • N. Elton Pond - 35

In Kittitas County:

  • N. Fio Rito Lake - 95
  • Mattoon Lake - 100
