PUYALLUP--The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife again this year is planting hundreds of hatchery coho salmon weighing up to five pounds in DeCoursey Pond.

The first release of 500 fish from the Voights Creek Hatchery in Orting will occur Wednesday, September 27. If more surplus hatchery fish become available, a total of 1,500 coho may be placed in the pond.

DeCoursey Pond is open only to children under age 15. No fishing license or catch record card is required. The limit is five coho per day and the season lasts through November 30.

DeCoursey Pond is located in Puyallup's DeCoursey Park on 7th Avenue SW, approximately a mile west of the Western Washington Fairgrounds.

The department has released surplus hatchery coho into DeCoursey Pond for the last several years and the program has proved successful in providing additional recreational fishing opportunity for youth anglers.

The fishery is sponsored by WDFW and the Puyallup City Parks and Recreation Department.
