Olympia--The Davis Slough parking lot, providing access to the west side of the Leque Island Unit of the Skagit Wildlife Area, will close July 28 to help facilitate construction on the Davis Slough Bridge and raising and widening of State Route 532.

The parking lot will be closed throughout the construction project, which is expected to continue into next year.

Belinda Rotton, Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife’s (WDFW) manager of the Skagit Wildlife Area, said limited parking for the Leque Island Unit will still be available at the parking lot at the end of Eide Road.

The Leque Island Unit is a popular destination for waterfowl hunters, pheasant hunters, birdwatchers, and other recreational users.

WSDOT is leading the construction project. More information is available at the WSDOT website: http://www.wsdot.wa.gov/projects/sr532/davissloughbridge/
