The registration deadline is May 4 for Spokane County's second annual "Kids Klassic" fishing event, scheduled May 12 at Clear Lake.

Kids from 5- to 14-years-old can learn to fish, catch stocked rainbow trout, and take home a Zebco rod and reel and an event t-shirt for a five dollar registration fee.

Registered participants will fish in half-hour segments from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. from the Fairchild Air Force Base docks on Clear Lake, located two miles south of the town of Medical Lake, just west of Spokane. The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) will stock the dock area with 5,000 8- to 12-inch rainbow trout for the event.

Registration forms are available at WDFW's Spokane regional office at 8702 N. Division St. (456-4082) and Spokane County 4-H, 222 N. Havana St. (477-2166), or through the event's other local sponsors, including: Spokane Walleye Club, Inland Northwest Wildlife Council, Kalispel Tribe, Avista Utilities, Inland Empire Bass Club, Inland Empire Fly Fishing Club, Washington State BASS Federation, Trout Unlimited, Big Brothers-Big Sisters of Spokane County, and White's Outdoors.

Last year's first annual "Kids Klassic" event in the Spokane area, in Riverfront Park on the Spokane River, was attended by about 700 children. It was one of several such events across Washington, initiated by the CAST (Catch A Special Thrill) for Kids Foundation.
