News release Sept. 3, 1998
The Washington Fish and Wildlife Commission closed the season during its Aug. 8 meeting in response to testimony from two area landowners that seasons are too early and too long in northern Quilcene Bay, conflict with other recreational uses and present safety concerns.
The closure is intended only for the 1998 season, to allow landowners and Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife district staff to discuss long-term options for maintaining waterfowl hunting and addressing landowner concerns in the area.
The closed area includes all lands and waters within 100 yards of Quilcene Bay, including Quilcene Bay north of a line extending due east from Boathaven Marina to the eastern shore of the bay.
Other seasons in the area remain in effect. Hunters are reminded to check the WDFW "Migratory Waterfowl and Upland Game Seasons" pamphlet before setting out to hunt. The pamphlet is available at WDFW regional offices and most hunting license dealers statewide. Pamphlet information also is available on the WDFW Internet website (wdfw.wa.gov/).
