News release July 2, 2004
OLYMPIA - A new pamphlet of shooting-practice ranges statewide is available from the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW).
The booklet lists some 165 public shooting range facilities by county, and notes the types of shooting opportunities at each location. The publication also includes information on a WDFW grant program that supports development of not-for-profit shooting ranges with proceeds from a federal excise tax on archery equipment and firearms.
"Target practice plays a key role in public safety, and we hope this publication will make it easier for hunters to locate places where they may safely and legally practice shooting skills," said Mik Mikitik, WDFW's hunter education coordinator.
The 28-page booklet can be viewed and downloaded on the WDFW website at http://wdfw.wa.gov/outreach/hed/shootingranges.htm.
Persons who would like a printed copy of the pamphlet may send a self-addressed business-size (number 10) envelope stamped with 60 cents of postage to: Hunter Education Program, WDFW, 600 Capitol Way N., Olympia, WA 98501-1091.
