MONTESANO -- The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife will hold a public meeting to discuss opening ocean seine net fisheries for squid, sardines and mackerel.

The meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. May 28 at the department's Montesano office at 48 Devonshire Road, just south of Highway 12.

Warm water off the Washington coast has drawn unusually large numbers of sardines, mackerel and squid into state water.

In response, WDFW is considering emergency regulations to issue special commercial fishing licenses to allow harvests.

The proposed season would open July 1 and close Oct. 31.
