Public meeting to focus on Crocker Lake fish

CHIMACUM--The public will have an opportunity to discuss future fish management in Crocker Lake in eastern Jefferson County from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Nov. 19, the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife announced today.

The public meeting will be held at the Tri-Area Community Center in Chimacum.

Issues and management options to be discussed include recovery efforts for the critically low population of wild coho salmon in the Snow Creek Basin and the re- introduction of trout and/or warmwater fish species such as bass and perch.

Earlier this year WDFW removed illegally planted northern pike from Crocker Lake. The non-native predator represented a significant threat to the wild coho and other native fish in Crocker Lake. The pike could have posed a major threat to native fish species throughout Washington had they been introduced to other bodies of water.
