News release Feb. 27, 1998
All three waters were scheduled to close Feb. 28. The new schedule announced today calls for Kress Lake and Klineline Pond to remain open indefinitely. Horseshoe Lake will close March 31 and reopen April 25. During the closure, Horseshoe Lake will be treated with alum to reduce phosphorous levels. The treatment will not affect the fish.
The additional recreational fishing opportunities were adopted to encourage the harvest of excess hatchery steelhead and sea-run cutthroat which have been released in the three lakes.
WDFW reminds anglers that only a game fish license is required to fish for the steelhead in these waters. A steelhead license and catch record card are not required. The trout daily limit in these waters is five fish, no more than two over 20 inches in length.
Fishing licenses are available at most sporting goods stores and at the WDFW Region Five headquarters, 2108 Grand Blvd, Vancouver.
