Steelhead codes change for some rivers

OLYMPIA Steelhead anglers are being asked to use some new river codes for entries on their 1997-98 catch record cards.

The new codes will enable fish managers to improve their management data by placing harvested steelhead in the watershed in which they were caught. Here is a list of the old and new codes:

Biologists also are activating existing codes for the following: Waatch River (234); Black River (021) and Big Beef Creek (019).

The department also is urging steelhead anglers to return their 1996-97 catch record cards. The information on the cards will be used to assess the 1996-97 steelhead harvest.

Persons interested in 1995-96 harvest results may obtain a copy of the "1995-96 Steelhead Harvest Summary" by contacting their regional Department of Fish and Wildlife office or the Olympia office at (360) 902-2700. The reports also are available at the Department of Fish and Wildlife's Olympia office at 1111 Washington St.SE. The reports are available at the Licensing office on the first floor and at the Fish Management Program on the 6th floor.
