VANCOUVER-Food, activities for people of all ages, entertainment and prizes will be available at Third Annual Sturgeon Festival known as A Celebration of the Columbia River Ecosystems from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday (May 22) at the Water Resources Education Center, 4600 SE Columbia Way here.
The Watershed Congress, an event in which local students present water quality projects, will be new to this year's festival. Other features will include: birds of prey in flight, presented by Hawk Haven; knowledge tests about salmon and sturgeon species in jeopardy; observing and touching insects and reptiles, presented by Creature Features; Eartha the Clown and her parrot and the Bridge of Gods puppet show by the Tears of Joy Threatre.
The free festival is presented by the City of Vancouver and Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife. Scientists from WDFW and other agencies will give presentations on several topics, including sturgeon, rare animals in southwest Washington, the plight of western pond turtles and efforts to restore wild salmon and steelhead runs in the Columbia River and its tributaries.
