News release Nov. 18, 2003
OLYMPIA - A fishing regulation regarding the trout season on the Dungeness River in Clallam County was stated incorrectly in the 2003/04 Fishing in Washington rule pamphlet published by the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife.
The stretch of the Dungeness River from the hatchery intake pipe at river mile 11.3 to the forks at the Dungeness Forks Campground will remain open to trout fishing through Feb. 29, 2004 - not Nov. 30, 2003, as stated in the regulation pamphlet.
This provision pertains to fishing for cutthroat, hatchery steelhead and any other species of trout on that section of the river. The daily bag limit for the portion of the river open to fishing is still two trout, measuring at least 14 inches in length. Anglers must release any wild steelhead, Dolly Varden or bull trout they catch.
The stretch of the river between the forks at the Dungeness Forks Campground and Gold Creek are CLOSED WATERS. Waters above Gold Creek closed to fishing for trout and other game fish on Oct. 31.
