OLYMPIA – The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) is now accepting applications for the 2025 Watchable Wildlife Grant, designed to enhance wildlife viewing opportunities and foster stewardship of Washington’s biodiversity.

This grant program, funded by the Wild on Washington bald eagle specialty license plate, supports projects that create, improve, or promote opportunities for communities to experience wildlife and learn about responsible viewing practices. A total of $30,000 is available, with individual grants starting at $5,000. The application period is open now through May 30.

WDFW prioritizes projects that address barriers for underserved and marginalized communities, ensuring equity and inclusivity in wildlife conservation and recreational efforts. Eligible applicants include individuals residing in Washington, nonprofits, schools, local governments, and federally recognized tribes.

“The Watchable Wildlife Grant is an exciting opportunity for Washingtonians to showcase and share in the joy that wildlife viewing can bring to individuals and communities,” said Kelsey Hansen, WDFW watchable wildlife coordinator. “We’re thrilled to be able to support projects that help connect people to fish and wildlife conservation in meaningful ways.”

WDFW will notify successful grant recipients in the first half of August.

The Department will hold a virtual public information session via Zoom on April 3 from 6:30 - 8 p.m. This will be an opportunity to learn more about the grant and ask questions not covered in the FAQs section on the grant website. This session will be recorded and posted for later viewing. Pre-registration is required to receive a link to the webinar.
