News release Feb. 13, 2002
Olympia - "Wild about Washington,' the monthly-television program produced by the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW), can now be viewed online on the agency's website.
The 15-minute program, which is entering its fourth year of production under executive producer Chuck Bolland, is distributed each month to more than 35 televison channels, including educational systems that serve Seattle, Yakima and Wenatchee.
Beginning this month, however, the "Wild about Washington" will also be available on the Department's popular website at http://wdfw.wa.gov.
The magazine-format program is hosted each month by a different WDFW employee, who introduces viewers to different fish and wildlife features. The show also informs viewers about current recreational opportunities throughout the state, such as fishing and wildlife viewing.
The show presently online focuses entirely on the highly successful 2001 salmon season and the efforts by the Department to provide sustainable commercial and recreational fisheries while at the same time working to recover weak wild salmon stocks.
The program, hosted by WDFW Director Jeff Koenings, provides information on topics ranging from new fishing techniques developed in recent years to protect weak stocks, to the major economic role fisheries play in the state's economy.
February's "Wild About Washington" show, which will be posted in the near future, features segments on the relocation on an errant moose in Spokane who was moved from a residential neighborhood to the woods; fish research on Lake Roosevelt; a forecast of the 2002 salmon seasons; and a demonstration on the proper care of a bird feeder.
The program is hosted by Yoanna Betsacon, who works in the Department's Enforcement Program.
The Department's website also features an online science magazine; the latest in fish and wildlife news and regulations, volunteer opportunities, wildlife viewing tips and other information on WFDW and its resource programs.
