OLYMPIA - A Whidbey Island pheasant-release site adjacent a Navy air base that had been closed to hunting following the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks will open for hunting Nov. 10, the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) announced today.

The OLF Coupeville pheasant release site, part of Naval Air Station Whidbey Island (NASWI), will be open for hunting through Nov. 30, said Mick Cope, WDFW upland game manager.

Cope said hunters are required to use non-toxic shot at the Coupeville site, and must have a NASWI hunting permit from air station security before hunting. Base permit information is available at (360) 257-3122.

The Seaplane Base pheasant-release site, also part of NASWI, remains closed because of security concerns. Cope said it's unlikely that any additional sites would open this year.
