OLYMPIA – Yesterday Sept. 13, the Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) experienced a grave loss of a beloved coworker who passed away as the result of an accident while participating in a snorkeling survey for summer steelhead on the Wind River in Skamania County. The Skamania County Sheriff’s Office responded.

“She was an extraordinary woman and colleague,” said Director Kelly Susewind. “Her commitment and dedication to her work as a fish and wildlife biologist was exceptional. Our hearts are with her family and all who knew and worked with her.”

Snorkeling surveys are conducted to count adult salmon and steelhead and redds. WDFW has suspended all snorkeling surveys statewide until further notice.
