Drone flights to map, spray weeds at Skagit Wildlife Area units

Information alert

From June until early October, WDFW staff will intermittently fly drones over several units of Skagit Wildlife Area to photograph, map, and spray weeds.

The goal of this drone flights project is to improve habitat conditions by applying herbicide to invasive vegetation such as cattail, reed canary grass, and spartina. Flights will be strictly over WDFW-managed lands. No area closures are planned. WDFW will avoid collecting personal information during mapping flights. Pilots will take reasonable steps to avoid disturbing waterfowl or other wildlife. When flights occur, temporary signage will be posted on site informing the public of drone use and vegetation treatment.
