Dominion wolf pack update

Publish date
Aug. 9, 2024

This is an update for the Dominion wolf pack following the lethal removal authorization by Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) Director Kelly Susewind on July 31, 2024.

On July 31, 2024, WDFW Director Kelly Susewind authorized the lethal removal of one adult wolf from the Dominion pack in response to repeated cattle depredations in Stevens County. The authorization is consistent with the guidance of the state's Wolf Conservation and Management Plan and the lethal removal provisions of the department's wolf-livestock interaction protocol (PDF) (PDF)

Efforts to lethally remove a wolf from the Dominion territory are ongoing. As of Aug. 8, WDFW has not removed a wolf despite daily and continued efforts.

Since the lethal authorization, WDFW has documented additional livestock depredation events in the Dominion pack territory. Since July 19, 2024, the Department has documented a total of 18 depredations, including five mortalities and 13 injuries in this pack territory.
