Commercial Puget Sound shrimp fisheries

Puget Sound is home to four separate state-managed commercial shrimp fisheries: fixed gear spot shrimp pot, fixed gear non-spot shrimp pot, non-spot shrimp beam trawl, and intertidal burrowing shrimp. Each fishery is managed separately and has independent quotas, management goals, and gear limitations. As with all shellfish harvest in Puget Sound, information on tribal fishing in Puget Sound is available through the Northwest Indian Fisheries Commission.

  • Spot shrimp pot fishery

    The Puget Sound non-spot shrimp pot fishery targets several larger species of pandalid shrimp which are relatively unknown by most but are a local treat.

    The Puget Sound non-spot shrimp beam trawl fishery is a small scale, artisanal trawl fishery that delivers cooked and live pandalid shrimp to markets for bait and human consumption.
