Additional area open to fishing on Washougal River

September 16, 2011

Action: Reduce fishing closure from 400 feet to 200 feet downstream of the new Washougal River adult fish weir.

Effective Dates: Sept.17, 2011 until further notice

Species affected: Fall chinook and coho

Location: Washougal River

Reason for action: Washougal Hatchery is expected to meet brood stock needs.

Other information: A very large run of hatchery fall chinook is expected to return to the Washougal River this year. All hatchery fish are adipose fin clipped with selective fishing rules in place. This regulation change opens to angling an additional section of the Washougal River downstream of the new weir which is holding a large number of hatchery fish. Significant additional harvest is expected to reduce the number of hatchery fall chinook being trapped and surplussed at the weir.
