Adult salmon daily limit reduced on the Kalama River

March 1, 2022

Action: Reduces the adult salmon daily limit to 1 fish.

Effective date: Effective Mar. 1, 2022, until further notice.

Species affected: Salmon

Location: From the mouth upstream to 1,000 feet below the fishway at the upper salmon hatchery (Kalama Falls Hatchery)

Rule: Salmon min. size 12". Daily limit 6. Up to 1 adult may be retained. Release all salmon other than hatchery Chinook and hatchery coho.

Reason for action: Preseason forecasts indicate a reduced adult salmon daily limit is necessary to provide both spring Chinook angling opportunity and to meet broodstock and hatchery collection goals.

Additional information: Fishery managers will continue to monitor spring Chinook returns to the Kalama River to determine if additional open fishing periods and/or increased retention limits can be implemented.

All other permanent rules remain in effect; please refer to the Sport Fishing Rules pamphlet for additional information.
