Anglers may keep hatchery steelhead in hatchery spring
chinook fishery on Cowlitz County's lower Green River
Action: Beginning April 26, 2003, anglers will be able to keep 2 hatchery steelhead during the lower Green River spring chinook fishery.
Effective date: April 26, 2003, through May 31, 2003
Species affected: Hatchery steelhead
Location: Green River (Cowlitz County) from mouth to 400 feet below water intake at upper end of salmon hatchery.
Reason for action: Allows anglers to retain early returning hatchery summer run steelhead caught during the existing hatchery spring chinook fishery.
Other information: Daily limit two hatchery steelhead. Minimum size 20 inches. All wild steelhead must be immediately released unharmed. Open to fishing for hatchery spring chinook and hatchery steelhead only.
Under permanent regulations, the open area to fishing for salmon and hatchery steelhead expands from the mouth upstream to the 2800 Bridge, effective June 1, 2003. Wild chinook release required through July 31, 2003.
