Anti-snag rule ends March 16
on the lower Wind River

Action: The anti-snag rule will no longer be in effect during the spring on the lower Wind River from the Burlington Northern Railroad Bridge downstream.

Species affected: All species except sturgeon.

Effective dates: March 16, 2010

Location: Wind River from mouth (boundary line/markers) upstream to the Burlington Northern Railroad Bridge.

Reason for action: The anti-snag rule for the spring fishery from Burlington Northern Railroad Bridge downstream was permanently eliminated during the 2010-2011 Sport Rule Adoption Process. This emergency rule change will make the new permanent regulations effective at the start of this year's fishery.

Other information: From the mouth to 400 feet below Shipherd Falls, the salmon and steelhead daily limits will be a total of 2 hatchery chinook or hatchery steelhead or one of each from March 16 through June 30. Wild chinook must be released. Night closure will be in effect.

From 100 feet above Shipherd Falls upstream to boundary markers approximately 800 yards downstream from Carson National Fish Hatchery (except closed 400 feet below to 100 feet above the Coffer Dam), the salmon and steelhead daily limits will be a total of 2 chinook or hatchery steelhead or one of each from May 1 - June 30. Unmarked chinook may be retained in this section of the Wind. Night closure will be in effect.

The anti-snag rule will remain in effect from Shipherd Falls upstream May 1 through June 30. Only fish hooked inside the mouth may be retained. The anti-snag rule will also be in effect in the fall above and below Shipherd Falls.
