Baker Lake to open for sockeye

July 6, 2023

Action:  Opens fishing for and retaining sockeye salmon

Effective date:  July 8 through Aug. 31, 2023

Species affected:  Sockeye salmon

Location:  Baker Lake (Whatcom Co): Catch record card code: 825

Salmon Rules:

  • Daily limit 3 sockeye. Min. size 18”.
  • Two-pole allowed with two pole endorsement
  • Each angler aboard a vessel may deploy salmon angling gear until the daily salmon limit for all anglers aboard has been achieved.

Reason for action:  A record number of sockeye have been trucked Baker Lake for this early in July. Due to the unprecedented number of early returning fish, the lake will open earlier than scheduled to maximize opportunity.
