Action: Close recreational fishing for bottomfish near Pt Heyer in Area 11 on July 5, 2006

Effective dates: July 5, 2006 to Nov. 2, 2006

Species affected: All species of bottomfish

Location: Waters within 500 yards of the radio tower at Point Heyer on Vashon Island in Marine Catch Record Areas 11.

Reason for action: The Department of Fish and Wildlife is conducting an experiment on female rockfish near Pt Heyer. The experiment will capture, mark and release rockfish alive. To conduct the experiment, it is necessary to capture and mark female rockfish prior to the time they give birth. A closure to fishing is necessary to protect the marked fish during the experimental period.

Other information: Fishing for salmon will not be affected by this rule change.
