June 2, 2025
Action: Opens a portion of the Cascade River to fishing for hatchery spring Chinook salmon daily. Closes 300-foot section of river immediately upstream of Rockport-Cascade Bridge to all fishing.
Effective date: Immediately through July 15, 2025.
Species affected: Chinook salmon, all game fish.
Location: Cascade River (Skagit County) from mouth to 300 feet upstream of Rockport-Cascade Road Bridge.
Specific locations and rules:
- Cascade River from mouth to Rockport-Cascade Road Bridge:
- Open daily.
- Daily limit is four hatchery Chinook salmon including no more than two adults. Minimum size is 12 inches. Release all salmon other than hatchery Chinook salmon.
- Night closure and anti-snagging rule in effect.
- Cascade River from Rockport-Cascade Road Bridge upstream 300 feet:
- Closed waters.
Reason for action: When this fishery was initially opened, Sundays, Mondays, and Tuesdays were closed to recreational fishing to avoid gear conflicts with treaty fishers. Treaty fisheries for hatchery spring Chinook salmon in the Cascade have concluded for the season and weekly closures are no longer necessary.
Additional information: Anglers are asked to cooperate with creel personnel collecting catch information. Monitoring and evaluation of fisheries is an important part of ensuring we are meeting our conservation goals for salmon. The July 1 to 15 period of this fishery will also be listed in the 2025-2026 Washington State Sport Fishing rules pamphlet.
Please note the area from the upstream side of the Rockport-Cascade Road Bridge to 300 feet upstream is now closed waters due to enforcement issues.
Fishery managers encourage anglers to sign up for Fishing Rule Change email notifications and to check for emergency rules on the WDFW website prior to fishing. Refer to the 2024-25 Washington Sport Fishing Rules pamphlet for additional fishing rules.
