Changes to the recreational shrimp fishery in the
Port Townsend Shrimp District

Action: The recreational Spot shrimp fishery in the Port Townsend Shrimp District will not open as scheduled on May 7, 2005.

Effective dates: May 7, 2005.

Species affected: Spot shrimp.

Location: Port Townsend Shrimp District

Reason for Action: Due to extremely low catches of Spot shrimp in the preseason test-fishery the Spot shrimp fishery will not open as scheduled for conservation purposes.

Other information: The southern portion of the Port Townsend Shrimp District, south of a direct line from Walen Pt. to Kala Pt., will remain open to the harvest of all species of shrimp, except Spot shrimp. All spot shrimp caught must be returned to the water immediately.

Reminder; for most of Puget Sound the 2005 shrimp season will open at 7:00 AM on Saturday May 7th. This represents a departure from previous years for much of Puget Sound where the season opened in late April, as well as in Hood Canal where the season has traditionally opened in late May.
