Chinook release required on Nisqually River; fishing closed at the mouth of Clear, Kalama Creeks

September 19, 2014

Action: Anglers must release all chinook salmon. In addition, fishing is closed from 100 yards downstream to 100 yards upstream of the mouths of Clear Creek and Kalama Creek.

Effective Date: 12:01 a.m. Sept. 22 until further notice.

Species affected: Chinook salmon.

Location: Nisqually River downstream of the military tank crossing.

Reason for action: Chinook abundance appears to be down substantially from pre-season forecasts. The change is necessary to collect sufficient fish to meet spawning goals at the hatcheries.

Other information: Daily limit is six salmon. Up to two adults may be retained. Release all chinook. All other regulations remain in effect. The river is closed to fishing on September 22, 23, 29, and 30.
