Chinook retention to close Aug. 4 in Marine Areas 5, and 6

Action: Closure to retention of hatchery chinook in Areas 5 and 6.

Effective date: Effective 12:01 a.m. August 4, 2003.

Location: Catch record card area 5 (Sekiu) and the portion of Area 6 west of Ediz Hook at Port Angeles.

Reason for action: The fishery management quota of 3500 hatchery chinook is expected to be reached by the end of Sunday.

Other information: Both areas remain open to salmon fishing where pink and hatchery coho salmon catches should be on the increase. Chinook catch estimates for this week's fishery (through Aug. 3) will be assessed early next week, and if additional chinook retention is possible, an announcement will be made by Wednesday, Aug. 6.
