Action: Closure to retention of all Chinook in Areas 5 and 6.

Effective Date: Effective 12:01 a.m. August 15, 2006.

Species affected: Chinook salmon.

Location: Marine Area 5 (Sekiu) and the portion of Area 6 west of Ediz Hook at Port Angeles.

Reason for action: Preliminary catch estimates indicate that the fishery management quota of 3,500 hatchery chinook is expected to be reached by the end of Monday.

Other information: Both areas remain open to salmon fishing for hatchery coho and sockeye. Hatchery coho salmon catches should be on the increase. Chinook catch estimates will be finalized early next week and if additional harvestable Chinook are available, additional opportunity will be provided.
