Chinook retention to close September 15 on Columbia River from
Rocky Point/Tongue Point upstream to Bonneville Dam
Action: Retention of Chinook salmon will close on the mainstem Columbia River from the Rocky Point/Tongue Point line upstream to Bonneville Dam
Effective date: Sept. 15 through Dec. 31, 2006
Species affected: Chinook
Location: Mainstem Columbia River from the Rocky Point/Tongue Point line upstream to Bonneville Dam
Reason for action: The Columbia River fall Chinook run size is below expectations and impacts to the ESA-listed Snake River wild fall Chinook allowed for this fishery are expected to be met
Other Information: This area will remain open for hatchery steelhead and hatchery coho. The daily limit in this area continues to be six salmon but no more than two adults. All Chinook, chum, sockeye and wild coho must be released.
The Buoy 10 fishery remains open for Chinook, hatchery coho and hatchery steelhead through December.
The Columbia River upstream of Bonneville Dam to the Highway 395 Bridge in Pasco will also close to the retention of Chinook beginning Saturday, September 16 but will remain open for hatchery coho (and unmarked coho above Hood River Bridge) and hatchery steelhead.
