Chinook retention to close September 16 on Columbia River from
Bonneville Dam upstream to Hwy. 395 Bridge at Pasco

Action: Retention of Chinook salmon will close on the mainstem Columbia River from Bonneville Dam upstream to the Hwy. 395 Bridge at Pasco.

Effective date: Sept. 16 through Dec. 31, 2006.

Species affected: Chinook

Location: Mainstem Columbia River from Bonneville Dam upstream to the Highway 395 Bridge at Pasco.

Reason for action: The Columbia River fall Chinook run size is below expectations and impacts to the ESA-listed Snake River wild fall Chinook allowed for the sport fishery are expected to be met.

Other Information: This area will remain open for hatchery steelhead and hatchery coho. Unmarked coho may only be retained upstream of the Hood River Bridge. The daily limit in this area continues to be six salmon but no more than two adults. All wild coho (except upstream of Hood River Bridge), Chinook, chum and sockeye must be released.
