Chinook Retention Continues on Mainstem Columbia River

Action: Retention of chinook will continue in the Columbia River from the Rocky Point/Tongue Point line upstream to Bonneville Dam.
Effective date: Immediately through December 31.
Species affected: Chinook salmon.
Location: Mainstem Columbia River from the Rocky Point/Tongue Point line upstream to Bonneville Dam.
Reason for action: The fall chinook runsize is increasing with a stronger than expected late returning component of upriver brights. Incidental sport fishery impacts to ESA listed Snake River wild fall chinook are within limits set to protect this stock. The previously announced closure to retention of chinook in this area beginning Oct.1 is no longer necessary.
Other information: The daily salmon limit in this area continues to be six salmon but no more than two adults. Only one of the adults may be a chinook and all chum, sockeye and wild coho must be released.
