Chinook salmon retention limit change in Marine Area 5 (Sekiu and Pillar Point)

Action: Changes retention limit to two Chinook salmon daily.

Effective date: July 21 through Aug. 15, 2023.

Species affected: Salmon.

Location: Marine Area 5 (Sekiu and Pillar Point).

Rule: Daily limit is two. Chinook minimum size is 22 inches. Other salmon species - no min. size. Release wild Chinook, wild coho, and chum.

Reason for action: The Marine Area 5 summer Chinook salmon fishery has reached 34% of the total legal encounters (2,497 of 7,254), agreed to in this year’s List of Agreed Fisheries (LOAF). Catch and effort have slowed in MA-5 after high catch during the opening weekend, allowing for increased retention for the remainder of the season.

Additional Information: Kydaka Point Area is closed. For area descriptions and additional rules see the Washington Sportfishing Rules pamphlet. Consider downloading the FishWA app or signing up for fishery change notifications by email at https://wdfw.wa.gov/about/lists.
