Chinook salmon retention suspended in Marine Area 9

Action:  Suspends retention of Chinook Salmon in Marine Area 9.

Effective date:  August 5, 2022

Species affected: Chinook Salmon

Location:  Marine Area 9

Rule: Two (2) fish limit; release Chinook, Chum and wild coho.

Reason for action: The current estimate of Chinook harvest for the summer fishery is 4,101 of the harvest quota of 4,700 (87%) agreed to in this year’s List of Agreed Fisheries (LOAF).  Chinook retention is being suspended beginning 12:01am Friday August 5th, when it is anticipated harvest quota will be reached. 

Additional Information:  This Fishing Rule Change begins the Coho directed season, which will continue as planned through September 28, including opening the waters of Area 9 south of a line from Foulweather Bluff to Olele Point.
