Closure of the Cascade River to fishing

January 14, 2008

Action: The lower Cascade River will close to all fishing, to ensure egg-take goals are met for hatchery winter steelhead at the Marblemount Hatchery.

Effective dates: Jan.17, 2008 until further notice.

Species affected: All gamefish.

Location: Cascade River from the mouth upstream to Rockport-Cascade Road.

Reasons for action: The Marblemount Hatchery facility has approximately 50% of the egg take requirements that are needed to achieve the 229,000 hatchery steelhead smolt release target. The closure of the fishery is necessary in order to collect sufficient fish to meet egg take needs.

Other information: When egg take requirements are met, the fishery will reopen as outlined in the 2007/2008 Fishing in Washington Sport Fishing Rules pamphlet.
