December 3, 2014
Action: Close to fishing from boats and both banks, that portion of the Hoko River from the hatchery fish ladder downstream 100 feet.
Effective Dates: Dec. 8, 2014 through Jan.15, 2015
Species affected: Steelhead
Location: Hoko River at the Makah tribal fish hatchery
Reason for action: Closing the portion of the river near the fish ladder will allow hatchery employees to work safely in the area, and allow steelhead to aggregate outside the ladder and move up into the facility to ensure egg take requirements are met.
Other information: The portion of the river to be closed around the fish ladder is smaller than the standard 400 foot closure for such structures, but is sufficient to provide a safe working environment and will allow hatchery steelhead to aggregate and move into the hatchery. The closed portion on the southwest bank of the Hoko River (opposite the hatchery) is the area between the posted signs.
