Closure of North Fork Nooksack River
and Whatcom Creek to fishing

Actions: 1. A section of the North Fork Nooksack River will close to fishing
2. Whatcom Creek will close to fishing.

Effective dates: December 1, 2011 until further notice.

Species affected: All species of fish.

Location:
1. North Fork Nooksack River from the Mosquito Lake Road Bridge upstream to the yellow post located at the upstream-most corner of the hatchery grounds, approximately 1,000 feet upstream of the mouth of Kendall Creek.
2. Whatcom Creek, from the mouth to Woburn Street Bridge

Reasons for action: The Kendall Creek Hatchery and Whatcom Creek Hatchery winter steelhead programs have had difficulty securing adequate numbers of broodstock fish to meet egg-take goals. Closure of the fisheries, similar to past years, will allow the collection of sufficient numbers of fish to meet production needs.

Other information: When the combined broodstock needs of Kendall Creek Hatchery and Whatcom Creek Hatchery are met, the fisheries may reopen and revert to seasons as listed in the Sport fishing Rules 2011/2012 pamphlet edition, FISHING IN WASHINGTON.
