Columbia River steelhead and shad sport fishery re-opens May 22
Action 1 - Steelhead: The Columbia River from the Rocky Point/Tongue Point line upstream to the I-5 Bridge will reopen to steelhead angling beginning Sunday, May 22.
Action 2 Shad: The Columbia River from the mouth to Bonneville Dam will reopen to shad angling beginning Sunday, May 22.
Effective date: May 22, 2005 until further notice.
Species affected: Steelhead and shad.
Location: Columbia River from the mouth to Bonneville Dam.
Reason for action: Incidental impacts to spring chinook destined for areas above Bonneville Dam are expected to be minimal and within allowable ESA impact levels.
Other information: Anglers are reminded that all spring chinook encountered in the area from the I-5 Bridge upstream to Bonneville Dam must be immediately released unharmed. However, under permanent regulations hatchery chinook jacks may be retained in the area from the Rocky Point/Tongue Point line upstream to the I-5 Bridge.
