Columbia Park Pond fishing closure
for "Fishing Kids" event

Action: Closes Columbia Park Pond to fishing one day prior to the youth fishing event, as well as the day of the event until 4:00 p.m. The pond will reopen to the public at 4:00 p.m., Saturday, May 5.

Effective dates:

· May 4 12:01 a.m., Columbia Park Pond closed to all fishing

· May 5 Columbia Park Pond open only to participants in the "Fishing Kids" event 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The pond reopens to the public at 4:00 p.m.

Species affected: All game fish

Location: Columbia Park Pond located within Columbia Park in Kennewick

Reasons for action: This rule change is necessary to assure a safe and successful "Fishing Kids" event. The fish will be planted one day prior to the event to better acclimate them before the event. Closing the pond will ensure these fish are available the following day for the Fishing Kids participants.

Other information: The "Fishing Kids" event has been held at Columbia Park Pond for the past eight years. The event this year will bring in over 1,200 registered kids as well as their families and friends. Columbia Park Pond is only open to fishing by juvenile anglers (under 15 years old) and persons with disability licenses.
